Vice Principal’s Report: Mr. Mattos
Our new Vice Principal, Mike Mattos, introduced himself to the group. He advised that to date there is about 65% parent participation in the Homelink system and that they have held two trainings for staff. Mr. Mattos noted that on the following day, October 15th, Foothill would be participating in the state-wide Great California Shake Out earthquake preparedness drill.
Mr. Mattos reported that approximately 150 parents attended the Math Night held recently. There were approximately 130 parents that attended the Northgate feeder Safety meeting, as a result there will be a Climate Survey issued via survey monkey to obtain feedback from students, parents and teachers. Printable copies will be available from office.
Mr. Mattos also reminded the group that school dances will be held on Friday October 23rd- 3-5pm for 6th grade and 7-9pm for 7th and 8th grade. Also, the week of October 26th-30th will be Red Ribbon Week and finally reminded everyone that the first quarter ends on Friday October 30th.
Faculty Report: Mrs. Green
Mrs. Green introduced herself. She is an eighth grade core teacher, and they had been on a field trip that day. She mentioned that this was an annual trip to the Chamber Group performances in San Francisco, and there is always an issue of feeding the students. They cannot brunch or lunch on the bus, which creates an issue for those students needing some form of refreshment. She asked that the PFA incorporate a volunteer team to help provide a breakfast of muffins and juice for the eighth grade students attending next year’s trip. This would be funded by the eighth grade department. The PFA Board made note of same and will undertake to ensure it happens next year.
PAC Update: Janet Sheehy
Ms. Sheehy reported that the search to fill the position of District Superintendant was on track, and they expect to have someone in the spot by January. She also noted that there would be a vote by the Board on 10/27/09 to decide whether or not to fund Winter Sports.
Further, the Parcel Tax campaign will commence in March and they hope to have it on the June 2010 ballot. Our school representative is Holly Hewes, and we are in need of a teacher representative as well.
Magazine Drive Committee Report: Holly Hewes
The magazine drive had been completed and was a success. Approximately $28,000 was brought in by the program, which meant they hit their target budget. Participation in the program was up this year, and at 40% of the entire student population.
Fall Social Committee Report: Susan Broehm
Buy your tickets for the 11/6 event at Shadelands Auditorium. Seventy’s theme with dinner, dancing and many items to bid on to raise funds for the school.
President’s Report: Mary Phalon
Ms. Phalon reported that the new Foothill PFA website was now on a private server, separate from MDUSD and reminded all that the volunteer handling this on our behalf is Elise Nai. Ms Phalon also reported that the motions passed by PFA at September meeting regarding funding of additional time for Librarian and assistant are now in front of the Board.
Finally, she requested that attendees stay after the PFA meeting for a brainstorming session regarding our school’s Strategic Plan.
Treasurer’s Report: Kathy Frattini
Ms. Frattini distributed updated budget and discussed.
NEW BUSINESS
PEAK: Kim Harris
Partners for Educational Achievement K-12: This group is getting up and running. The website is under construction and more information will follow. Ms. Harris wanted to underscore that fact that this group is entirely separate from Walnut Creek Education Fund, which does not contribute to our MDUSD schools. They are attempting to partner with some downtown businesses to fundraise, are seeking grants and will be in need of volunteers to help with marketing, legal matters, etc. If interested in giving some time, contact Kim Harris harrisfamuk@aol.com
The meeting was adjourned at 8:09 on motion by Kim Harris and second by Jenny Crosthwaite. A scheduled Strategic Plan brainstorming session to follow.
Next scheduled meeting set for Wednesday November 18, 2010 @
7pm in Foothill Library.
